The days are getting shorter, the mornings a little crisper, and the trees around the Wilder Kaiser are slowly turning into beautiful shades of autumn. And when the cows return from the mountain pastures to their familiar meadows, we know one thing: autumn has arrived.
Perhaps autumn is one of the most underrated seasons for a holiday in our region. Things become a little quieter, the temperatures are perfect for spending time outdoors – and suddenly, it feels perfectly fine to stay in bed a little longer in the morning.
So, what could 72 hours of autumn at Vergissmeinnicht look like?
Make the most of the autumn sunshine
The morning begins with a coffee on the balcony and a view of the Wilder Kaiser. If the sun is shining, it's time to head outside.
Autumn temperatures are perfect for hiking, cycling or a game of tennis. And there's something new to discover in Söll this autumn: the new padel court – definitely something we've already added to our own autumn list.
But there's no need to plan a big mountain adventure every day. Perhaps it's just a leisurely walk, a short bike ride or a long lunch stop at a mountain hut.
Our little autumn tip: Pick up some chestnuts on your way back and roast them in your apartment later. Add a glass of wine, leave the balcony door slightly open, and watch the sun slowly disappear behind the mountains.
And when you're feeling hungry, it's time to enjoy some traditional Tyrolean cuisine.
One of our personal recommendations is Weinstadl in Ebbs. Hearty food, a wonderfully cosy atmosphere and a fireplace that brings the perfect touch of autumn comfort.
Rain outside. Cosy inside.
And what if you wake up the next morning to the sound of rain against the window?
Even better.
Sleep in. Turn over for another hour. Enjoy breakfast in your pyjamas and have a second coffee, even though you've technically finished the first one ages ago. Perhaps one of our Build Your Boards is waiting for you, turning breakfast into a relaxed brunch without you even noticing.
Because holidays are also about allowing yourself the little things you somehow never find time for at home.
If you feel like heading out later, Kaiserbad Ellmau is perfect for a grey autumn day, with its sauna, heated pools, indoor climbing and tennis facilities. Let the rain do its thing outside while you enjoy a little warmth indoors.
And afterwards? Nothing else needs to happen.
Pick up a pizza. Put on your comfy clothes. Switch on Netflix.
Our apartments offer streaming options such as Netflix, so you can settle in for a cosy movie night. And if you'd prefer a screen-free evening, our games collection, with board games for all ages, is waiting for you. You'll also find books to browse through – perfect for an evening when you don't feel like going anywhere at all.
Add the leftover chestnuts from the day before, and suddenly that rainy day doesn't feel like bad weather at all.
Not quite ready to head home
Before your 72 hours are up, there's time for one last little outing. The Sunnseitweg, just a short distance from the house, is perfect for a final stroll in the crisp autumn air.
And checking out doesn't mean your holiday has to end straight away.
Our tip for the journey home: Stop off in Kufstein. The historic Kufstein Fortress is well worth exploring, even when the weather is changeable. Afterwards, take your time wandering through the old town and browsing its little shops.
And before heading home for good, there's just one thing missing:
A cinnamon roll.
Our little insider tip is Café Viola in Kufstein. For us, a good cinnamon roll is just as much a part of autumn as chestnuts, colourful leaves and the first evening spent in cosy socks.
Autumn is a time to slow down
Perhaps that's what makes autumn at the Wilder Kaiser so special.
You don't have to plan every hour of your stay. You can sleep in, take your time over breakfast, enjoy the sauna on a rainy day, have a board game night or simply do absolutely nothing.
And when the sun comes out again?
The mountains are right on your doorstep.
See you soon at Vergissmeinnicht.
Welcome home.
Your hosts, Elena & Peter
